Meet Me on Monday?

Pin It Now!
Time to dish! Monday is the day we get personal.  Blogging is a funny thing...we tell our most intimate thoughts for all to read. Do you want to know who the person is behind all those words? Every Sunday Java from Never Growing Old will post five get to know you questions that we can copy and paste into our own Monday meme post.

I hope you also drop by my book blog BITSY BLING BOOKS. I have lots going over there too!

You nasty girl, what do you put on your hot dog?
I have two favorite dogs.  I make the traditional gut bomb: onions, sauerkraut, ketchup with a touch of mustard.  I also, like the 'burrito' dog: taco chili, cheese, tomatoes (or fresh salsa), onion, and shredded lettuce.  Add hot sauce if you're a sassy chica.

Do you play Sudoku?  No.  I detest math of any kind.  I do crosswords.  As an author, I swore an oath to words.  Words are better.  Go words!

What is your favorite vegetable?  I think any of my family and friends can answer this one because it is so strange.  My favorite vegetable is BRUSSEL SPROUTS.  I love them and must have them with every holiday meal.  Not gross, but yummy, yum.

Do you color your hair?  Sometimes, when I'm bored.  It's lightened up a lot and I was thinking I'd like to make it a touch darker.  We'll see.  It feels healthy right now and that is more important.  I don't want to do anything that would dry or damage it while I wear it long.

What is your favorite brand of clothing?  I don't have a favorite brand.  I have what I call my old reliables.  For everyday wear, I can always count on Anne Taylor fitting me great.  I can wear just about any design and cut from that line.  Seven for Mankind and Joe jeans fit my bootie best and I really like coach purses because they wear so well.  I would say those are my 'stables' in my closet and go to brands.

Who Is Nestor Maronski?

Pin It Now! Nestor Maronski is a fictional character that exists in the collective and creative minds of writers.  He is also the star in the much anticipated release, Cutting the Fat.  It all began at the author board Bestsellerbound, a place where writers gather to discuss everything from commas to critics.  Under a thread discussing how to deal with (not so complimentary) reviews, Nestor reared his bald, ugly head.

So, how do authors deal with reviewers?  They write about killing them, of course!  I'm excited to see this project come to completion and now available in ebook format.  The talented writers who participate at the cyber watering hole called, Bestsellerbound, have become a valuable group of colleagues and people I like to think of as friends.  Everyone who has or is thinking about writing a book review should read Cutting the Fat!

Book Synopsis:
Nestor Maronski is the world's most notorious book reviewer, meticulously crafting his scathing critiques every week for the Daily Post. The massive Maronski fortune allows vile-tempered ol' Nessie to become a puppetmaster in countless other arenas, all of which are dedicated to his passion for desecrating the careers of independent authors everywhere. Now a myriad band of such wronged writers has glommed upon one scary idea: kill Nestor Maronski...but only after he's made to suffer.

The Post review by Nestor Maronski The Red Barn Book and author character featured in Cutting the Fat.
What happened next....

Want more Nestor?  For hilarious hours of entertainment you really should follow this literary ass on Twitter @NestorMaronski and become a fan at his Facebook Page.  Many authors drop by to leave their unfavorite critic a nice message or just to get him started on some rant.  Don't believe me?  All you have to do is message good ol'Nessie "I love indie authors" and you're certain to get a response.

Thanks for your support and think twice before writing that not-so-nice book review!

Myself! What A Delicious Topic.

Pin It Now! As usual, I'm late to the party. I just came across this meme and decided to join in. I like answering questions. It's probably because I'm so interesting and good-looking. LOL

Weighing In...What Is Charlie Talking About?  Oh, myself!  What a delicious topic.
  1. Why do you blog? I started blogging as a way to network with others interested in writing and books.  The book world is an amazing network of awesome people!  Cyber book clubs and challenges are the best.
  2. What is your favorite TV show? Dexter!
  3. What's the first thing you drank this morning? Water.  I drink a lot of water.
  4. Are you married, single or in a relationship? I'm an old, married woman. LOL
  5. List three of your hobbies. Writing, reading and gardening.
  6. What do you like most about yourself? My sense of humor and that I'm not like anyone else.  I embrace all my quirks.
  7. List a couple of your favorite sites: My regular haunts are Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, Librarything, BestsellerBound, Smashwords and Amazon Books.
  8. What's the last book you read? February The Fifth by Derek Haines.  I just started The Betrayal of Maggie Blair by Elizabeth Laird.
  9. Can you whistle? No.  I just seem to spit all over my chin if I try.
  10. List your favorite pro sports teams.  Boston Red Sox
  11. What's the last thing that made you smile? Reading a thread by authors discussing and sharing strange review comments they've received.  It was funny and comforting at the same time.
  12. Do you prefer mayo or mustard? It depends on what it's on.  I love mustard on some things, but hate it on a hamburgers.  Mayo pretty much goes on everything unless I decide it is a Ranch Dressing kind of day.  However, I hate mayo in egg salad -- it has to be Miracle Whip.  I'm a complicated lady.
  13. Do you have a crush on someone? Tim Roth from Lie To Me
  14. Do you get up early or sleep in? I sleep in.  I'm a night person.  Mornings?  What are mornings?
  15. Do you attend church? Nope.  It requires me to wake up in the morning, dress and put on make-up.  Yeah, that isn't going to happen.  I'll send my regards from home.  I'm certain a God can hear me if he is everywhere.
  16. Would you rather see a movie at home or in the theater? At home since we have a nice little theater system set-up.  Plus, there are no cooties on my couch.  I worry about what lives on theater chairs, especially those with cloth seats.  Ewwww!
  17. Was there a teacher or authority figure that ever truly stood out to you? Yep, my Intro. to Creative Writing professor in college.
  18. What is your favorite game? Clue and Uno.
  19. Cupcake or potato chips? Cupcakes.  I have a horrible sweet tooth.  Not really a chip gal.
  20. Tell us something random that we wouldn't know to ask. I like to see how fast I can complete a crossword puzzle.  It sounds geeky, but I can do them very quickly.  I'm probably some kind of genius ;D

FINALLY! It's bowl time. Behind the scenes with the Nevada Wolfpack

Pin It Now!
Gabe and Brandon
As some of you might already know, my son Gabe attends the University of Nevada and is also a freshman football player.  This has been an exciting year for the wolfpack and our family is really excited about getting to share the upcoming bowl event.  Our Christmas was cut short due to football practices, but the family will be reunited this Saturday when we arrive and join the team and their families in San Francisco for the Kraft bowl game.  The team's plane landed on Tuesday and was greeted by media.  Since then, their days have been pretty packed with practices, media interviews, eating and a little bit of fun.  Throughout the long weekend I will be blogging and posting pictures about the experience.  For now, I'm going to enjoy this moment of being a UNR fan and a proud wolfpack mama.  Come Tuesday, I will get back to business as usual :)
When's the big game?

Complete Guide to Indie Books, Anthology Vol. I, II and III

Pin It Now! Joel Blaine Kirkpatrick in association with the outstanding cooperation of the members of Bestseller Bound has compiled a three volume anthology that includes books, bio's, and the first chapter samples of many talented indie authors works, including websites and purchase links.  Yes, you can buy these books from well-known, popular distributors like Amazon, Borders, Book Depository and Barnes & Noble.

Since a minuscule percentage of published books actually have a huge marketing budget, it can be difficult to find good reads on the front display cases.  Don't believe me?  Go ahead, I dare you to walk into a major book dealer this week and you'll find Snookie's It's A Shore Thing shoved at the front of the store.  Now, if this is your idea of a good read, then clearly this site and anthology is not for you.  So, those authors with smaller marketing budgets and even less hair, have banned together to make browsing for an indie book easier.  Volume Two is my favorite because it includes yours truly!  The Hidden Will of the Dragon is chapter 11.  The links to the other anthologies (one and three) are below.  Please, please check them out.  It is worth your while!
